GDC Communities owes its beginnings to the success of our parent company, Genstar: a developer founded in Canada in the '50s that remains active today. Since its inception, Genstar has pioneered master-planned communities in both Canada and the US—including development of some of North America's first master-planned lake and golf communities. In 2000, Genstar formed GDC to pursue new opportunities in the US, allowing Genstar to focus exclusively on the Canadian market. Today, both companies continue to operate independently but remain under common management out of the San Diego corporate office. Over the years, GDC has fine-tuned Genstar's proven, disciplined approach to the US market. We have formed partnerships with builders and developers on select assets to purchase, entitle, develop and build out residential communities designed to live up to the Genstar legacy of innovation and success. All told, GDC and its affiliates have completed over 60 communities in Canada and the US.
