Ecoembes is a non-profit public limited company whose corporate objects include the design and organization of an Integrated Management System (SIG) for the selective collection and recovery of packaging waste for subsequent treatment, recycling and upgrading. Ecoembes was incorporated in 1996. Since then, more than 12,000 companies have joined the SIG. Its shareholders include 57 companies and groups comprising all of the sectors which participate in the management of packaging, from manufacturers and packagers to distributers, manufacturers of raw materials and recyclers. In 1998, when Ecoembes started to operate, household packaging recovery and recycling rates were 5% and, 16years later, more than 70%. This data have enabled our country in 15 points exceed the objectives set by the European Union in the field of recycling of packaging (55%) Since 1998, we have avoided more than 12.8 million tonnes of packaging ending up in landfill sites. This has allowed a reduction in emissions to the atmosphere of 12.6 million tonnes equivalent of CO2, and a reduction of energy consumption (14.5 million MWh) and water (343 million cubic metres of water).

Ecofiltro se inició hace más de 20 años y funcionó como una organización no-lucrativa durante la mayor parte de su historia. Philip Wilson, nuestro director ejecutivo, llegó a la conclusión que el problema del agua, el hecho de que el agua pura falta en los hogares rurales de muchos guatemaltecos, no podía ser solucionado efectivamente con la dependencia de donaciones que existía cuando él inició como director. Él decidió convertir Ecofiltro en una empresa de impacto, un “social business”, que se enfocaría en un acercamiento híbrido al problema en el cual las ventas de los filtros en áreas urbanas servirían para reducir el precio de los filtros para familias en áreas rurales. Certificaciones: "El año 2020, Ecofiltro fue acreditado como BCORP, lo que posiciona a la marca en la selecta comunidad de empresas de triple impacto en Guatemala y el mundo. Haciendo trascender sus valores, filosofía social y de beneficio al medio ambiente. Además, en 2021 recibe la certificación ISO 9001:2015 por sistema de gestión de calidad; esto garantiza la satisfacción de los usuarios que confían todos los días en la salud de agua que consumen, reafirmando el objetivo de Ecofiltro por dar resultados positivos de impacto." En el año 2020, el Ministerio de Educación a través de la Dirección General de Acreditación y Certificación, Certifica y Acredita al programa/proyecto educativo Purificación de Agua a Ecofiltro.
