Gansbaai Academia is a newly established multi-cultural school. The school was opened in 2010 and serves a very poor community. Gansbaai Academia teaches 620 learners from Gr 8 - 11, the enrolment is expected to increase to 870 in 2012 when we proudly will present our first matriculants. As a non-school fee institution, we are financially at the mercy of the Department of Education. Fundraisers and other methods of income are therefore essential for the successful delivery of excellence and the holistic development of learners of Gansbaai Academia. The importance of parental and community involvement in student learning and the provision of meaningful learning opportunities for our learner's and community cannot be underestimate. However the school as an academic institution have a commitment to community involvement. The numeracy and literacy development of workers are just as important, and the school has to play a pivotal part in the upliftment of unskilled workers in our community. Gansbaai Academia seeks to establish a family -learner literacy program as cornerstone of its library media centre. Key features of such a centre would include extended library hours to service the needs of learners, parents and others in the community.
