We're the Dahlonega squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, based in the mountains of North Georgia and serving our neighbors and country. Some of us are pilots, some of us are aren't- but all of us have a strong desire to serve as the United States Air Force Auxiliary. A 501c(3) not-for-profit organization, the Civil Air Patrol performs a variety of varied and interesting missions to aid our nation and its citizens. Over 90% of all search and rescue missions performed in the U.S. are performed by Civil Air Patrol squadrons- and always on a volunteer basis. But that's not all. CAP has recently been tasked with homeland security and courier service missions and performs non-auxiliary missions for governmental and private agencies, such as local law enforcement and the American Red Cross. As disaster recovery volunteers we are often at the forefront helping Federal, state and local disaster agencies with a range of dedicated and well-trained volunteers from across the country. A phrase often heard from our members, when asked why they joined is, "I wanted to give something back to my country..." Founded just prior to World War II in 1941, our volunteer pilots, ground crews and thousands of other volunteers across Georgia and across the nation follow our motto: "Semper Vigilans" (Always Vigilant).
