FWB Canada Information

Firefighters Without Borders Canada (FWB Canada) is a registered charity operating from within British Columbia that offers support to emergency service organizations in countries with a demonstrated need. Our goal is to provide a "helping hand up" to these organizations so that they in turn can administer a higher level of emergency services to their communities. We know that disasters can strike at any time and in any country; however, more than 90 percent of those affected by natural and human-caused disasters-earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, landslides and volcanoes-live in developing countries. The poverty, high-density populations, and environmental degradation affecting most of the people in these countries make them the most vulnerable to disaster and least able to help themselves when it happens. The mission of Firefighters Without Borders Canada is to assist the emergency service agencies of these nations to improve their ability to effectively offer a higher level of emergency services to their communities. FWB Canada grew out of a 12 year relationship that began with Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services donating all decommissioned turn-out gear to the National Fire Service of El Salvador. It is estimated by the CBES (El Salvadoran Fire Service) that 70% of all PPE in use originated from Vancouver. Our Designated Purposes Are:To deliver aid in the form of equipment, training and/or financial support to fire departments, emergency services organizations, and fire fighters in countries or regions that have a demonstrated need. To foster relationships with fire service organizations in other geographical regions of the world. To promote public awareness of the need for assistance in other geographical areas of the world with regards to emergency services. To develop relationships with other fire service organizations currently delivering aid to various geographical regions of the world.
