Future Tides is a digital-first publication based in Seattle providing news for professional mariners, recreational boaters and those who are “boat-curious.” Utilizing solutions journalism, data visualization and audience engagement, Future Tides articles explore what’s on the horizon for the Pacific Northwest’s modern maritime community. Founded by Cara Kuhlman in 2021, Future Tides merges her maritime and media experience. A lifelong sailor who has worked in the industry, Cara is deeply connected to the region’s commercial and recreational boating communities. As a writer and journalist, Cara previously ran a neighborhood news blog, worked at a tech news site and now works in public radio.
