Friendly Textiles was founded by a PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering to bridge the gap between biomass valorization and textile innovation. The project’s current focus is the industrial potential of chiengora — a secondary raw material recovered from dog grooming. By applying advanced engineering to this often-overlooked keratinous fiber, next-generation yarns and fabrics are developed that are as functional as they are sustainable. From laboratory testing at Politecnico di Torino to Life Cycle Assessment at Kaunas University of Technology, Friendly Textiles redefines what "waste" means for the future of fashion and quantifies the environmental footprint and circularity potential of this material innovation.
