Freedom Squares Information

This project was sparked by the impassioned speech by Ukraine’s President Volodomyr Zelenskyy on March 1, 2022, after deadly missiles struck Kharkiv's Freedom Square, when he stated that “every square today, no matter what it's called, is going to be called Freedom Square, in every city of our country.” Freedom Squares represents the memorials, monuments, parks, squares and outdoor arenas where Ukrainians have always gathered, shared in their common culture, cultivated community and celebrated their freedom. We believe that there is tremendous value in combining the reality and the digital realm - our algorithm synthesizes images of the actual city squares by combining artist-generated designs with accurate geospatial data in order to showcase these places where meaningful stories have flourished for generations. This project amplifies these incredible stories and the people behind them, while garnering much needed support for real-time aid and relief for Ukranians.
