Fort Monmouth officially closed its doors as a U.S. Army installation in September 2011, and a new chapter in the Fort’s history began. The Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) was created to guide the investment, growth and integration of Fort Monmouth and the surrounding communities. FMERA is advancing the Fort Monmouth Reuse and Redevelopment Plan, developed in 2008 as a blueprint to promote and encourage employment, commerce and economic development at the former installation, while protecting the Fort’s natural resources and honoring its rich history. Spanning three communities in Monmouth County – Tinton Falls, Eatontown and Oceanport – Fort Monmouth’s location and history make it ideal for a mix of land uses and redevelopment opportunities, including three separate town centers connected by bike paths and walking trails, interspersed with retail, entertainment and recreation sites. Redevelopment began with the opening of two large commercial sites, CommVault's new corporate headquarters and AcuteCare Health System's outpatient facility, bringing jobs back to Fort Monmouth just two short years after finalization of an agreement for transfer of the first half of the former Fort from the Army. As the birthplace of some of the nation’s most significant technological advances, Fort Monmouth serves as an ideal home for technology and communications developers and researchers. We encourage visitors to explore the opportunities available, as well as learn more about the area’s assets and industries, and options for incentives and financing. Together with our partners and stakeholders, we are embarking on a new future for the Fort; collectively, we will help to rejuvenate the former Fort as a new source of jobs, investment and community pride.
