Creating all-ability productions that enable performers to soar! Flutter Productions produces original, world premiere productions for the stage, based in theater and contemporary dance. Flutter Productions, part of the Black Hills Works family, creates opportunities for performers of all-abilities to soar, challenging the perception of people with disabilities and creating a new creative community in which performers - with and without disabilities - come together to celebrate the human spirit. Our productions are adjusted and tailored to highlight the talents of our performers. In addition to fully-produced all-ability performances, we offer classes and arts camp opportunities for people supported by Black Hills Works, and members of the community. Flutter Productions is under the artistic direction of Heather Pickering. Black Hills Works is a community of people with disabilities where everyone participates to achieve a life of purpose and potential. Flutter was founded in 2008 with the inception of an original production entitled: Flutter, written by Heather Pickering, produced by Black Hills Community Theatre and The Suzie Cappa Arts Center, which was funded by The National Endowment for the Arts and the Allied Arts Fund - Stanford Adelstein Grant. It was the first original, all-ability piece of dance theatre created in the state of South Dakota. The experience illustrated the transformative power of the arts both on stage and behind the scenes, and it was clear that all-ability performance opportunities had to continue to flourish. From 2008 - 2014 Flutter created an original piece of dance theatre on a biennial basis in Rapid City. In 2013 and 2014 Flutter expanded its reach to include the Sioux Falls area. In 2015 Flutter Productions became a part of the Black Hills Works family to expand its offerings annually.
