If all you have is a well-executed process, you might just be really fast and predictable at solving problems in a less than optimal way. I believe there is more to software development than just having the proper process in place. It also requires a deep understanding of the technology, and - more importantly - imagination. Imagination is key. It allows you to see around corners and connect ideas that nobody connected ever before. That's what I do and enjoy most. Find the things that washed upon the shores of our imagination, take it apart and understand what's going on under the hood, take inspiration from it, come up with new ideas that never were before and then just start constructing it. And *that* will give you serious competitive advantage. In practice, that means my work is mostly Scala and NoSQL related. I like big data, and head the NoSQL Netherlands meetup group, I am involved in DuSE, the Dutch Scala Enthusiasts, and I am officially certified to provide Martin Odersky's Scala training. Other than that, I speak frequently at conferences (Devoxx, JavaOne, OOPSLA), mostly related to open source initiatives I launched in the past.
