Founded in 2003, FitzHarris Designs is an award winning architecture firm that provides clients high-quality design and attention to detail for major additions, infill projects, historic renovations, and interiors. Most of our projects are located throughout the Washington DC metro area including Virginia and Maryland. Each project is unique based on the site, surrounding context, and owner's requirements and style. We always seek intelligent and universal design solutions that will adapt and endure the test of time. We incorporate sustainable design concepts for day lighting, water conservation, and energy efficiency. We can work with you to specify quality materials, products with recycled content, VOC free finishes for a healthy environment, and energy efficient building systems. We've designed over 10 projects that qualified for the Arlington Green Home Choice Program. We have extensive experience with historic renovations and preservation throughout Arlington and Alexandria, Virginia. FitzHarris Designs is very familiar with historic district guidelines and has had over twenty five projects approved by Arlington's Historic Affairs and Landmarks Review Board (HALRB). We also design new contemporary projects when we get the opportunity such as in McLean, Lost River, and in the Rocky mountains. Our firm is known for being extremely approachable and communicative throughout the design process. We strive to help families create intimate, well-designed, homes of their dreams. As female architects and designers, we are keenly aware of families' spatial and organizational requirements that can improve quality time together. We have a flexible work schedule and use electronic communication that allows even working parents to find the time to review and collaborate during the design process and product selection for their homes. FitzHarris Designs has great working relationship with several general contractors. While we typically recommend the traditional design-bid-build process, we can also collaborate with a specific GC and offer a design-build process if desired. Prior to FitzHarris Designs, Heidi FitzHarris worked in a few architecture firms including Gensler, Ligon Flynn FAIA, and the Department of State. She designed many new luxury homes and estates ranging from 6,000 to 24,000 SF in addition to commercial interiors, retail, workspace, long range facility plans for US Embassies, etc. Heidi graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor in Science of Architecture. She graduated from Virginia Tech, Washington Alexandria Architectural Consortium, with a Master of Architecture. After many busy years, she finally found the time to finish the ARE's and is a registered Architect. Heidi lives with her husband, three children, and dog in Arlington. She coaches soccer and enjoys running and hiking with family in her spare time. Maria Wright joined FitzHarris Designs in 2013 and adds a wealth of knowledge for new construction in-fill lots and zoning analysis. She is an extremely talented designer who graduated from Yale with a Bachelor in Architecture. She is skilled with Revit three dimensional modeling and also very knowledgeable about construction. Maria is LEED certified and very passionate about sustainable design. She is currently taking the ARE's and hopes to finish the process somehow in her spare time! Maria lives with her husband, three children, and dog in Takoma Park. She coaches soccer and enjoys basketball and hiking with family in her spare time.
