In the early 1950s Richard Fitts worked as a road salesman for a hardware distributor, and became involved in the furniture trade when his employer took on a line of unpainted furniture. Dick was a natural salesman, and loved calling on the many mom and pop stores which were the backbone of the furniture retail business in those days. You never knew what Dick would bring home from his visits with his retail friends on the road. Often he would return with some stinky cheese and sausage (yep, the Wisconsin trips), occasionally he would arrive home with a new dog or sailboat. Throughout his career Dick was not only a successful salesman, he earned the respect and friendship of his business associates and knew how to enjoy life along the way. In the late 70s son Dana Fitts decided that selling furniture might be more fun than the career in laboratory research he had prepared for in school. The idea stuck and Dana continues to work in the business today, along with wife Linda who handles office duties, helps dealers with projects, and works the markets in Chicago and High Point. Our customers know they can count on Linda to follow up when they need help. Linda gets a big assist in the office from Willie, our faithful Westie. For many years, Danas brother in law Ted Hesson was in partnership with Dick and Dana, before moving to New England to represent Lloyd Flanders outdoor furniture. Teds son Charlie and daughter Claire with husband Jeff Walvick continue to represent outdoor furniture manufacturers in New England. The latest addition to the Fittsco lineup is Dana and Lindas son Andy, a welcome addition of youth to our company. Andy is learning fast, has been helpful in developing our website and dragging Dana and Linda into the digital age. We look forward to seeing what the next challenges and successes will be as a family team.
