The Alphabot System utilizes patented 3D omnidirectional Alphabot robots which are the only moving parts in the Alphabot System for maximum reliability, flexibility, and lowest cost to serve. Because their power source is supercapacitors instead of batteries, the Alphabot robots charge ‘on the fly’ for continuous, safe operation, and highest return on investment. And because most large grocery orders contain ambient, refrigerated, and frozen items, the Alphabot System has been designed for three temperature zone operation (ambient, chilled, and frozen) to store product inventory and completed orders in the system at the right temperature to help maintain quality and ensure product safety. In 2016, Walmart began working with Alert Innovation to customize technology for their market fulfillment centers. In 2019, Walmart began piloting the Alphabot System at their first MFC in Salem, New Hampshire. The Alphabot System has been in full operation at Walmart Supercenter #2142 in Salem, New Hampshire since January 2020. Walmart acquired Alert Innovation in November 2022 to extend their investment in automating order fulfillment in their retail supply chain.
