First Take Information

First Take is an award-winning not for profit filmmaking and digital arts organisation specialising in working with diverse communities and on artistic collaborations, producing radical, authentic, untold stories. It aims to create projects that impact on people’s lives, their understanding and perceptions. First Take creates short films including ENOUGH ROPE with BAFTA award-winning Vicky McClure, selected for film festivals in Los Angeles and Hamburg; TMESIS working with Liverpool's Tmesis Theatre, selected for film festivals in Sao Paulo and Helsinki and features such as BIG SOCIETY THE MUSICAL, which opened the London Labour Film Festival in 2014. Our latest feature is 1 IN 200, a dystopian political thriller starring Alicya Eyo and the spoken word artist Toria Garbutt. Our documentaries include 40 YEARS AT THE PAGODA, which documents the work of Pagoda Arts in LIverpool, featuring the Chinese Youth Orchestra and Zilan Liao. Our documentary THE UNLIMITED HOUSE OF KRIP was nominated for Best of British at the Iris Prize International Film Festival in 2018. 2023-28 First Take's major project is REEL QUEER, a 5-year project making films with the LGBTQIA+ community of Liverpool City Region.
