First Steps helps families and caregivers prepare their children for school success by maximizing public and private community resources to deliver, enhance and expand high-quality early childhood services. Every Anderson County child will be prepared for success in school. Why do we need First Steps? According to the 2018-2019 Annual Report, Anderson County First Steps provided: 214 children and 272 adults with intensive support to equip parents with the confidence and competence to be a childs first and best teacher, and strengthen their familys overall well-being through Family Literacy programs linked to Positive Parenting, Early Education for Children under 4, and Early Education Half-day 4-K classes; a total of 266 children and 643 families were impacted by Anderson County First Steps programs, resources, and activities. 14 teacher/home visitors working with 52 children and 50 parents to help them better meet the needs of children transitioning to 5-year-old Kindergarten through the Countdown to Kindergarten program. 1005 books to spark the love of reading for 122 children through Family Literacy with Positive Parenting, Early Education, and Countdown to Kindergarten programs.
