First Downs for Down Syndrome Information

First Downs for Down Syndrome (FDFDS) is a 501(c)3 organization that teams with the Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Line to raise money for the Kansas City Down syndrome region; to raise awareness of Down syndrome and the services available for those with Down syndrome and their families; and to create positive images of those with Down syndrome. FDFDS is supported solely through tax deductible contributions and participating in special events and fundraisers held throughout the year. The funds raised by FDFDS support the Kansas City Down syndrome community and the organizations listed below: The Down Syndrome Guild of Greater Kansas City—which provides support and resources for individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the professionals who serve them. The Down Syndrome Clinic at Children’s Mercy Hospital, a clinic that addresses the medical and therapeutic needs of children with Down Syndrome from birth through adolescence. The Mission Project, which enables adults with developmental disabilities like Down syndrome and autism live and work on their own with minimal support. The Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center at Shawnee Mission Medical Center, which helps children with special needs and their families prepare for the challenges for the future. Inclusion Connections, whose mission is to strengthen the lives of individuals with disabilities by creating inclusive opportunities for community involvement, access to meaningful employment, and better options for independent living. There are hundreds of families in the Greater Kansas City area caring for a loved one with Down Syndrome. Without First Downs for Down Syndrome, these families would not have local access to vital medical, emotional, educational and support services.
