The MFB provides a world-class fire and rescue service. Covering more than 1,000 square kilometres, we protect almost four million Melbourne residents, workers and visitors, as well as billions of dollars of assets and infrastructure – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. MFB firefighters are the first to respond to specific medical emergencies under the Emergency Medical Response First Responder Program (EMR) – a first in Australia. The MFB consistently reports some of the fastest emergency response times and consequently achieves a high percentage of fire containment to room of origin.
