Finding Workable Solutions Inc. (FWS) is a not-for-profit community organisation concerned primarily with delivery of high quality employment support services for people with a disability. Since 1989 FWS has operated a selection of small businesses offering people with a disability meaningful paid employment. Support provided by FWS in the workplace facilitates skills development and promotes achievement of personal vocational goals. New business ventures, including the successful ‘Salvage and Save’ social enterprise model, have increased the variety of work available for people with a disability wishing to learn new skills in a very supportive work environment. FWS also has a strong history of assisting people with a disability to access jobs in the open labour market, through delivery of Commonwealth funded specialist employment programs. Regional teams across South Australia connect job seekers with local jobs, providing post-placement support to both the job seeker and employer if required, to ensure job sustainability. A key part of the FWS commitment has always been the provision of practical, flexible, individualised support to help people with a disability successfully maintain their employment and enjoy the social and economic benefits of participating in Australia’s workforce. FWS recognises that job seeker support may often extend beyond the workplace, to successfully address barriers that can impact on sustainable employment. As we grow, FWS support services are diversifying in response to identified need or specific demand within the regions we cover. Increasingly, our successful client-centred approach is being applied to programs for youth, school-leavers and the many emerging job seekers with a mental illness who are now referred to FWS for assistance.
