Fight Food Waste CRC Information

To secure Australia’s food future, the Fight Food Waste CRC will reduce food waste throughout the supply chain, transform unavoidable waste into innovative high-value co-products and engage with industry and consumers to deliver behavioural change. The food and agribusiness sector is a major driver of the Australian economy. It produces about $45B in export revenue and directly employs over half a million Australians. An estimated 40% of all food is wasted throughout the value chain (on the farm, in transit, at retail and by consumers). This waste costs the Australian economy about $20 billion a year and results in millions of tonnes of food waste ending up in landfill each year. The Fight Food Waste CRC is focused on increasing the economic sustainability of the Australian food industry, reducing its environmental footprint and providing more food to those in need. We will draw together industry, research and government in a concerted 10- year effort to fight food waste in Australia. By supporting industry-led collaborations between researchers, industry and the community, the FFW CRC will help the Government to fulfil its National Food Waste Strategy commitment to halve food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains. The CRC and participants will deliver: - New sources of revenue and market growth for food companies. - Less waste of resources through the supply chain from paddock to plate - Less waste ending up in landfill. - More donated food to feed hungry Australians.
