Aging is an enemy. It saps our strength, cripples us, and eventually kills us. Yet people are largely unaware and uncaring of ongoing research into aging and longevity, of the plausible future of rejuvenation biotechnologies, and even of how to make the most of health and longevity using what few tools are presently available. This must all change for the better. All in all our relationship with aging leaves much to be desired. A majority of the public thinks of aging as inevitable and even desirable, a fact of life written in stone rather than a medical condition that may one day be curable. Comparatively few people know that the effects of aging can be very modestly slowed by lifestyle choices such as calorie restriction, just as is the case for many other medical conditions. While this is beginning to change, ongoing research aimed at repairing known types of age-related cellular damage in order to produce true rejuvenation, the prevention and reversal of frailty and disability in the old, does not receive the widespread publicity and support it deserves.
