The Fernwood Foundation is a charitable organization based out of Fernwood, Mississippi in the United States. The Fernwood Foundation was established in 1948 by Phil Enochs with the original purpose of building schools and churches for the black community members in the Fernwood Mississippi area. Phil was originally inspired by the lack of educational opportunity provided to black children, who were not allowed to attend the public schools available at the time. During the 1950s and 1960s the Foundation donated land and contributed capital to build several schools and churches. In more recent years, the Foundation has made contributions to churches and charities that support those in need in the Pike County area. Going forward, the Fernwood Foundation plans to continue its efforts to support, enhance and facilitate the education and advancement of the underprivileged in Pike County and the surrounding communities.
