The establishment of the College was in direct response to the national need for skilled, innovative and technologically oriented manpower resources for the development of the 6-3-3-4 policy on education. The birth of the College was long awaited. Established under Decree 4 of 1986, it took three years after, in 1989, for it to take off. Perhaps, its take off would have been delayed further if not for two principal personages who literarily induced the birth of the College. First was the philanthropic and benevolent late Igwe Dr. Mathias Nwafor Ugochukwu, LLB, OFR, who donated ten bungalows and their boys’ quarters for the immediate take off of the College. Second is the effort of the pioneer Provost, Dr. T. I. Eze who was bent on making something out of nothing in the face of all odds.
