Feder Aerospace solves the crucial problem in the UAV industry of how to easily craft autonomous contingent behaviors. The need is all around us; a low-flying UAV should have the ability to avoid power lines and other obstacles on its own; an agricultural UAV should treat crops only where it sees signs of stress; a search-and-rescue UAV should decide on its own when to hover, look closer, and deliver supplies when it identifies the person in need. Contingent behaviors force software developers to disentangle messy decision trees and custom-made inter-module communication schemes. They can force you basically to rewrite an entire control system for each and every new behavior you want to implement. Feder Aerospace makes a flight management infrastructure that can be integrated with existing control systems and that eliminates the usual decision-tree and inter-module-communication nightmares that come with implementing autonomous hazard-avoidance and contingency behaviors. Our architecture requires an onboard processor running Linux, but is otherwise hardware- and airframe-agnostic. And by design it can run in a distributed way on multiple aircraft at once for mission coordination and collision avoidance.
