Fat City Records has been at the forefront of hip-hop, funk, soul, jazz, soul and all things in between since way back in 1993. From its humble beginnings in Manchester’s Affleck’s Palace in February, 1993, it has become one of the leading online boutique record shops – its name synonymous with style and taste the world over. After 16 years in Manchester, in which time it had launched its own label and club night, the store was faced with closure. Down in London, Jazzman Records owner Gerald Short rightly felt a shop with such an important heritage in the UK music scene should not be allowed to die. He stepped in, took it over and brought it down south. Today, it continues to build on its legacy of being the go-to destination for all forms of black and urban music throughout history. Managed by music enthusiast and record lover Orsi Muntyan, FCR has a small but dedicated team that passionately believe in their music – whether it's barnstorming 1950s rhythm and blues, the latest in forward-thinking hip-hop, the best in lost funk and soul treasures or must-have jazz, Latin and Afro represses.
