Second Harvest
Second Harvest is Canada’s largest food rescue organization and is a global thought leader on perishable food redistribution. We work with thousands of food businesses from across the supply chain to redirect unsold surplus food to non-profit organizations that feed communities in every province and territory. By keeping perfectly edible food from ending up in landfill and redirecting it to the charitable sector, our work prevents harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere and improves access to nutrition for the millions of people in Canada experiencing food insecurity. In addition to our core work of food rescue, Second Harvest produces research on food loss and waste, provides education and training for the charitable food sector and has developed the Second Harvest Food Rescue App to facilitate direct donations from food businesses to local non-profits across Canada. In 2025 we rescued 95.8 million lbs of healthy perishable food and diverted it to more than 10,800 programs in charities and non-profits across Canada, averting over 309 million pounds of greenhouse gases. Our vision: No Waste. No Hunger Our mission is to keep food where it belongs: On plates and out of landfills.

Forgotten Harvest
Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” and distributed 40 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to more than 200 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area. FareShare North East
FareShare North East provides perfectly good surplus food to local community groups in the North East of England. This food, donated by both retailers and producers, would normally go to waste. Food is delivered to the FareShare North East warehouse, and then either delivered to or picked up by member charities. Community and charitable organisations across Sunderland, Newcastle, Northumberland, Gateshead, South Tyneside, East Durham, Stockton on Tees and Middlesbrough benefit from FareShare. These organisations distribute good food to communities which, due to economic and social exclusion, would either have an absence of food or a poor diet. Such groups include centres for victims of domestic violence, homeless organisations, lunch clubs for older people and kids clubs. Last year, FareShare North East provided food for over 650,000 meals in the region, and saved more than 270 tonnes of food going to waste thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers. FareShare North East would welcome enquires from both food organisations wishing to donate as well as new community projects that would like to receive food.
