Many families in Cambodia send children to orphanages who still have a relative nearby. The experience of New Life Mission, for example, has been that ~70% of the children have come to the orphanage that still has a parent or relative around. Many families send their children to orphanges for financial reasons and a chance at a good education. Unfortunately, there are many bad orphanges in the country that studies have shown can have negative developmental impacts on kids. We believe that investing in areas like foster care and family support services like parenting education, job training, social workers and counseling will result in less parents having to make the decision to send their kids to a bad orphanage. We believe that Fallen Sparrow is positioned to tell the story of incredible organizations in Cambodia to generous people so that we can make an investment in Cambodian families that will leave a lifelong impact.
