Expert Decisions Inc. is a University of Calgary spin-off company founded in 2003. The predecessor company Release Planner Inc. (RPI) was incorporated in Alberta in October 2003. EDI is offering a business intelligence solution for optimizing portfolio planning, product development road-mapping, and human resource allocation planning. These solutions are designed to better utilize existing resources and to maximize revenue under the given conditions. Our products are sold as a stand-alone service offered on subscription basis or as a hosted solution. Our services are based on two products called ReleasePlanner® and VeryBestChoice (VBC) light. ReleasePlanner® is a cutting edge product based on leading edge technology which has been proven successful with 100+ customers and trial projects. It is based on 40 person years of R&D to date. VBC light is a lightweight decision support system designed to facilitate proper priority decisions. It allows customized definition of criteria and anytime-anywhere prioritization by stakeholders. EDI is partially relying on basic and applied research done at the Software Engineering Decision Support Laboratory (SEDS) at the University of Calgary. Guenther Ruhe is both the founder and CEO of EDI and the Chair of SEDS. Dr. Ruhe has an Industrial research Chair in Software Engineering at the University of Calgary since July 2001 (see http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~ruhe/).
