Coaching is a process: it is a cooperative dialogue between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to draw out ideas and validate underlying assumptions. The review of recent activity is an evaluation of the moves made questioning the wisdom and effectiveness of the steps taken, the arguments with colleagues and third parties and the achievement of satisfactory work/life balance. Questions such as “Did you need to engage with that person? And “did you gain anything from that discussion? ” or “would it not have been better to keep quiet?”. Conversely, one may also ask why something was not done or said in a particular moment, even if this tends to be a less frequent occurrence. Next, determine how best to act in the current scenario, reminding one what the objectives are, and evaluating how best to achieve one’s long term goals. The coaching session is not a training session. The process is an iterative process subject to review, confrontation and challenge taking place over time.
