Ever:Red is building the future of natural pigments. Carmine is one of the most important natural red pigments used across food, beverages, cosmetics, and pharma. It is valued for its vivid color, stability, and strong performance. But carmine comes with a limitation that is becoming harder for brands and consumers to ignore: it is extracted from cochineal insects. Behind it's popularity lies a supply chain that is costly, climate-vulnerable, ethically compromised, and increasingly out of step with what consumers and regulators expect. Ever:Red is building a plant-based alternative. Using duckweed as a living biofactory, Ever:Red applies plant molecular farming to produce bioidentical carminic acid — the key molecule behind carmine’s iconic red colour — without relying on an insect-derived supply chain. Developed from research led by Prof. Asaph Aharoni at the Weizmann Institute of Science, a global leader in plant metabolomics and plant molecular biology, we aim to deliver carmine-level performance through a system designed to be ethical, scalable and sustainable. And red is just the start. Ever:Red's duckweed platform is built as a pigment pipeline. One biological system is designed to produce high-value natural colorants beyond carmine.
