The 21 Acres campus is a living laboratory in Woodinville, Washington where community comes together to learn and act on climate change. The LEED Platinum Certified building was one of the first LEED buildings in the greater Seattle area and is home to a learning kitchen, local foods Farm Market and distribution center, agricultural volunteer learning program, agroecology education farm, and work spaces that are integrated with the natural environment. With its ever-evolving environmentally-friendly features, the building hosts a graywater treatment system, composting toilets, passive cooling and heating design, and more. Situated just 30 minutes east of Seattle in the Sammamish Valley Agricultural Production District, 21 Acres sits at the crux of urban and rural land. Trust in Education
Trust in Education is a grass-roots organization, providing educational, economic and health care assistance to villages in Afghanistan. We inform and enlist Americans to become directly involved in the reconstruction of Afghanistan. We serve as a tie between Afghan villages and American communities, and appeal to hearts and minds in both. Over the past seven years, Trust in Education has expanded from one school of 120 children, to supporting classes in 10 villages that in 2010 helped educate more than 1,250 children. We have worked with the villagers to jointly prioritize their other needs, funding economic development projects and other wish list items, so they can better support their families. We have found sponsors for more than 75 street children, and we have helped some of the poorest Afghan families have food on the table and clothes on their backs. We have instituted pilot projects such as microcredit financing and solar ovens. We have supported improved health care, both through direct care and through providing supplies to hospitals. And we have a “play strategy” which supports playgrounds and soccer programs, both to improve school attendance and because we recognize how important it is to incorporate fun into a child’s day.
