Changing Lives and Communities Together
At SIRS, we support people with disabilities to discover, explore, and pursue their interests. Our philosophy is that individuals should have equal opportunities for personal learning and growth, independence, and employment. We do this by providing services and support in early intervention, residential living, community access, job placement and training, and transportation.
SIRS Mission: We build relationships to support people with disabilities on their journey toward independence.
SIRS Vision: Individuals with disabilities will have equal opportunities for employment, recreations, and living.
SIRS advocates for full inclusion, personal choice, and self-direction of services. Customers involvement is key, and our ultimate goal is to assist in developing natural relationships & support while reducing reliance on SIRS. We believe that all people have the right to live where they want, work where they want, and live how they choose. We support our customers in making their own decisions and creating the lives they want. We encourage the people we serve and our community partners to come together and help each other. We celebrate the unique gifts of all, and we facilitate the development of interests, skills, connections, and support to achieve personal goals.
The organization was founded in 1968 through a local grassroots effort of parents of children with disabilities and organizations who envisioned a community that welcomed and offered opportunity to individuals with disabilities rather than sending them to state-run institutions. SIRS continues to advocate for and implement best-practice, quality services for people with disabilities.
