ETC Foundation Information

ETC is a not-for-profit organisation working worldwide to strengthen resilience in support of people-centred development in rural and urban settings. We focus our expertise and efforts in the areas of agro-ecology, food and nutrition security and health, sustainable energy and energy. In all areas we support and advise governments, civil society organisations, bilateral and multilateral development agencies and collaborate with the private sector to facilitate change that is truly gender sensitive, inclusive and benefiting the poor. ETC works together with hundreds of partner organisations on all continents and hosts a number of prominent national and global programmes and network organisations. Our vision is: “sustainable development of people and environment, in a global context, based on local circumstances and local initiatives”. Our mission is: “to operate as a vibrant, innovative and information-sharing organisation which, through capacity building, advice, and facilitation of change processes and thematic networks, contributes to ecological sound, socially equitable, gender sensitive, economically viable and culturally acceptable situations”. Or in brief “building resilient societies”. We are an INGO (with ANBI status!) working on a not-for-profit basis. Our aim is to empower people, organisations and institutions and contribute to their sustainable development processes. We focus our work on rural areas in the Netherlands and the South. We offer programme/project management and advisory services in the areas of Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development, Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Health Care Systems. We also offer consultancy services on a not-for-profit basis. Any profits made are reinvested in the Foundation and in a few projects implemented each year at operational cost. We work from a process-oriented approach and have a strong preference for longer-term advisory processes (rather than a hit-and-run approach).
