We have been pioneering vocational education in the city since 1843, through a series of predecessor institutions. Having achieved University status in 1992, we changed our name to Birmingham City University in 2007, reflecting our commitment to, and pride in, our home city.

We offer a variety of professional and vocational courses, serving over 10,000 full and part-time students living and working across Solihull, Warwickshire and Birmingham.

Central Campus Sandwell College is one of the newest FE Colleges in the UK and is a landmark for the development of education and training in the region. Situated in an iconic building in the heart of West Bromwich, the College attracts learners from across Birmingham and the Black Country. The majority of our learners are 16-18 and studying on full time courses; either vocational courses designed to prepare them for the modern workplace or academic study in our brand new sixth form Central Sixth. We also welcome thousands of adult learners on to a wide variety of full time, part time and short courses ranging from Entry Level to Foundation Degrees, Level 5 vocational programmes and CPD programmes. We also have a rapidly expanding apprenticeship programme and a broad range of training courses designed to meet the needs of regional and local employers including work-based learning, bespoke training and short courses to suit the demands of individual businesses.
