Equitas is a philanthropic organization working with projects and partners that seek justice, intervention, holistic restoration and advocacy for the vulnerable and oppressed. We build strategic partnerships and collaborations through funding, advising and advocating — changing the lives of exploited and marginalized people, for good. Mission: Seeking Justice for the vulnerable and oppressed as well as encouraging holistic and responsive thinking towards that end. Equitas is presently concentrated on two major directives: preventing and alleviating I) Child Servitude in Haiti and II) Child Trafficking & Exploitation in Southeast Asia. Additional areas include advocacy, local justice/children at risk partnerships and selected initiatives in orphan care. 1. Child Servitude in Haiti: Child domestic servitude (or “restavek”) in Haiti is a deeply rooted system that is woven into the fabric of Haitian society. We partner with organizations across multiple sectors to address the restavek system in a holistic and comprehensive way. While we hope to attenuate the suffering of children currently trapped in restavek, we truly desire to confront the underlying push and pull factors that allow such a system to thrive. 2. Child Trafficking and Exploitation in Southeast Asia: Our aim in Southeast Asia is to prevent and alleviate the trafficking and exploitation of children. Due to the complex nature of human trafficking, we seek to build and strengthen a diverse and comprehensive web of response encompassing prevention, intervention and restoration. Predominately focused in Cambodia, we currently are working with a variety projects in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Poipet, Banteay Meanchey Province and Battambang.
