Equal Sound strives to introduce listeners to new music by breaking down the traditional confines of musical genres. As advocates for "classical" music, Equal Sound is dedicated to the idea that all music is created equal. Equal Sound curates experiences that illuminate the threads between classical music and other genres to attract and engage new audiences from all musical worlds. Equal Sound began presenting concerts based around the idea that all forms of music deserve equal consideration and attention in 2015. Artistic directors Nick Norton and Andrew Glick met through mutual friends in the new classical scene in Los Angeles and bonded over an interest in bringing the music they found most exciting to a wider audience. They shared a belief that any music can be made accessible through high quality, thoughtful production, and that audiences were more than happy to to listen to avant garde, experimental, or other forms of new "classical" music so long as it was presented in a relatable way from programming, environmental, price, and marketing standpoints. Thankfully the directors were uniquely well matched to pursue this idea together. Before moving to Los Angeles Andrew had worked as Programming Manager for The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, and at Opus 3 Artists in New York City, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic. He would handle the connections to top level artists and composers. Nick, on the other hand, had spent years playing shows in punk bands, being a part of a composers' collective, and running a popular blog and calendar site about the LA experimental and post-classical music scenes. As a recent graduate of a PhD program in composition he had the time and drive to be the boots on the ground to find venues, coordinate production with artists and technicians, manage publicity and marketing and connect with audiences in the Los Angeles scene.
