Incorporated in 2025, Entropyst is the first Scottish pyrolysis start-up specialising in a groundbreaking power-to-X reactor technology, HyWand™, that converts waste hydrocarbon gases (e.g. flare gas, biogas) into clean hydrogen and highly graphitic solid carbon (e.g. carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibres, battery-grade graphite). Hydrogen, a clean fuel, has a multitude of applications and is in high demand as a chemical feedstock; for instance, to produce ammonia which is the 2nd most traded chemical in the world and supports feeding over 50% of the global population. Graphitic carbon such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs), hailed as the material of the future, boast unparalleled thermophysical properties, such as extraordinary tensile strength—up to 100 times stronger than steel—revolutionising a myriad of industries.
