Finding a college counselor is easy. Finding one who understands how to help you discover and develop your passions, so that you will succeed in the application process and beyond, is challenging. Over the past decade, the process of getting into college has grown more competitive, more stressful, and more expensive. Companies big and small have sprouted up to sell supposedly fool-proof systems and endless services to students and parents who are confused and just want to honest, high-quality advice. My name is Jeff Collins, and I founded Entrance Advisor out of the belief that there is a better way. After I graduated from Stanford University and Northwestern School of Law, I toiled away at large law firms, and yearned for something more meaningful. Out of this experience, I came to understand that true success is not born of constant stress, pressure, and anxiety. Rather, it comes from finding and pursuing one’s fundamental interests. I changed direction and became a U.S. diplomat who served in leadership positions in five countries, and a White House National Security Director in the Obama Administration. Through these and later professional experiences as a Corporate Social Responsibility leader at a major international corporation, non-profit founder, and tech executive, I helped hundreds of young people discover their passions, navigate school admissions, and make wise career and life decisions. My interest and success in mentoring the next generation of change agents led me to create Entrance Advisor, a company rooted in the premise that the best way to help young people succeed -- in admissions and beyond -- is to help them find and develop their interests and talents. We work closely with families as early as junior high to understand a student’s goals, strengths, and limitations. We instill the principle that success in admissions, as in life, requires passion, hard work, and a willingness to think outside the box. We motivate students to excel in coursework and help them develop of an extracurricular resume that demonstrates they are the type of leaders that top universities prize. When it comes time to apply for colleges, we help students convey to colleges in a convincing manner how they will add something special to the incoming class. And we get results. Our students have gained admission into every top school and have gone on to become next generation leaders in the private, public, and social sectors.
