Auto enrolment is where an eligible employee is automatically enrolled into a company pension. Between October 2012 and February 2018 employers will have to start auto enrolling all eligible employees into a qualifying pension scheme and contribute to their plan. Unlike the existing Stakeholder pension framework, employers will be required to contribute to their workers’ pensions. Most employers will have to automatically enrol some or all of their workers into a qualifying scheme, that meets a minimum standard, and pay contributions on their behalf. In order to comply with the new legislation, additional processes will need to be established in HR, Payroll and finance departments.
