Engineers Without Borders - University of Florida Chapter Information

The Engineers Without Borders Chapter at the University of Florida (EWB-UF) was founded in 2006 in an effort to provide students the opportunity to use their skills to provide help to communities in need across the globe. Since the beginning, our chapter has had the opportunity to assess, plan, design and implement engineering projects in Macedonia, Cambodia, Nepal, Bolivia and Peru. Our organization partners with communities to offer sustainable solutions to problems they are currently facing. We currently have about 80 active members with diverse engineering backgrounds and other non-engineering disciplines. Our team structure involves various sub teams including: design, communications, fundraising, educational and public relations. Our partnership with Maras Ayllu began in September of 2016. Maras Ayllu is an agricultural community where water is needed not only for consumption, but also for crops. The community’s agriculture serves as both a means of nutrition, as well as a source of financial income for most community members. Unfortunately, the past harvest seasons have been very difficult for farmers as the wet seasons have been shorter than expected, causing crops to fail. Currently, farmers are mostly dependent on rain to irrigate their crops. Our team is designing an irrigation reservoir for implementation that give the community reliable storage of irrigation water for the dry season. As a team, we take pride in the passion that is evident among our members to provide Service to the Global Community and are honored to continue developing future leaders!
