energHius designs power management chips for ultra-small battery-free wireless sensors. Most wireless sensors still run on batteries, and changing them is what makes large deployments in buildings, infrastructure or logistics expensive to maintain. Energy harvesting can remove the battery, but today's commercial power management parts need around a microwatt and several hundred millivolts to start up. In practice that means harvesters of several square centimetres, which is too big for many products. Our chips are designed to cold-start from 100 mV and under 10 nW with no external components. They can harvest from a tiny indoor solar cell, a small temperature difference or any other DC source, so a sensor node can shrink to the size of a fingernail and run for its whole life without a battery. The chip sits next to the radio and integrates an Arm Cortex-M0+ core for fine control of power and the digital work of a sensor node. The technology comes from more than a decade of research at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where earlier generations were measured in silicon at a few nanowatts. Our first commercial chip went to fabrication in September 2026, and evaluation boards will be available in early 2027.
