Empee started 140 years ago and became a limited company in 1940. For most of that time we traded out of London's East End rag trade, growing from one shop on Brick Lane in the 1960s to three by the 1990s. Still family-owned, still doing the same job: helping people find the fabric they need. By 2002 we'd outgrown the shops, so we moved into a 27,000 sq ft warehouse in Edmonton, North London. It let us do what we do properly, keep a genuinely vast range on hand and get it to customers fast, instead of squeezing everyone into three small shopfronts. Today we supply creative businesses across the board, fashion, bridal, theatre and film, market trading, craft and manufacturing. We're not a factory two continents away, we're a London fabric house that knows this industry inside out, and knows our customers by name.
