As part of Emery Worldwide, in the early 1980s Emery Worldwide Airlines began operating a fleet of Boeing 727, Douglas DC-8 and (later) DC-10 freighter aircraft to transport parcels, packages and freight via Emery’s hub-and-spoke air freight network centered in Dayton, OH, with international connections to a hub in Maastricht, Netherlands. The Federal Aviation Administration forced Emery Worldwide Airlines to ground its fleet on August 13, 2001 due to maintenance and safety concerns. Emery Worldwide Airlines ceased operations on December 5, 2001.
