Ellington Wood Products, Inc. was founded in 1975 by D. Richard "Dick" Ellington, who decided to turn a woodworking hobby to a viable business. The company was started in an old barn on the family farm with one employee and has grown to five acres, and 10,000 square feet of area, with 15 employees. Specializing in custom pallets, EWP has customers ranging from ordering truckload quantities, to those that have dozens of size requirements. Deliveries started in the local area and now range throughout the Mid-Atlantic. With long-standing relationships with valued suppliers, a steady flow of raw material is maintained. Dick oversaw the operation going from everything cut on a radial arm saw and made with a nail gun, to computerized saws and automatic nailers in operation today. Having worked in the business from the age of 15, Dick's oldest daughter, Laura, joined full time in 1985 after graduating from college. After her marriage in 1986, her husband, David Vassar joined the business and they took over the reins in the late 1990's upon Dick's decision to retire. Their daughter, Elizabeth Vassar, is in the business now as Ellington Wood Products moves into the 21st century with the third generation. Ellington Wood Products prides itself on being a small family business with emphasis on customer service, and plans on many more years to come.
