We love projects. And we love to develop those who work on them. Project managers have a remarkable role to play in project - and organisational - success. They need a solid understanding of standard project management terms, processes and techniques. They also need the ability to apply this knowledge in their workplace using a range of appropriate skills, tools and templates. Team members also need this knowledge and skill-set, as they support the PM to achieve project success, whether it be through their contribution to project plans and documents, or by managing a sub-project, stream or work package. Meanwhile, project sponsors, program managers, and portfolio managers must also understand not only what the PM and team are doing (or should be doing) - but also their own role in providing advice, support and governance, to ultimately ensure that the benefits of projects are realised. Success requires all of these people to possess the knowledge, skills and tools to competently perform their role - so that projects, programs and portfolios can work seamlessly together to effectively and efficiently implement change, execute corporate strategy, and achieve organisational success.
