Element Zero is an Australian technology company developing a patented electrochemical process to convert iron ore into high-purity iron using renewable electricity. Based in Western Australia, our technology operates at substantially lower temperatures than conventional ironmaking and is designed to work with intermittent renewable energy. For iron production, the process is designed to use 30–40% less energy per tonne than conventional coal- or gas-based processes, without the direct CO₂ emissions associated with carbon-based ironmaking. Our immediate focus is green iron. The underlying electrochemical platform also has potential applications across other metals and minerals, including silicon and nickel. Element Zero is progressively scaling its technology in Western Australia, with the longer-term objective of deploying modular commercial-scale green iron production.
