For too long, mobility and electricity generation have been mutually exclusive in government spending and infrastructure activities, with one usually taking precedence over the other. This prioritisation is often detrimental to the nation and its people. Our team, consisting of four Melbourne Business School students with a vehement desire to create tangible social change, have developed a business model to create a paradigm shift in the way developing nations can build and use their roads. By harnessing the power of piezoelectric cells and their embedment into civil infrastructure, we can now generate renewable energy while enabling the mobility of people. These cells transform mechanical energy generated by humans, animals and all types of vehicles on roads, into usable electrical energy capable of transforming nations.
