Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of Australia (EVF Australia) was launched in Sydney on Saturday, 15th May 2004. About 150 Sydneysiders attended the function. The Hon. Consulate General of India, Mr. Ganapathi was the chief guest for the function, who officially launched the organization. In his introduction speech President of EVF Australia Dr. Nihal Agar, said, "This is a historic day for EVF movement in Australia, a movement that is as unique as was the Satyagraha movement of India in 1930s and 40s. That movement liberated India from the foreign rule. This movement - the Ekal Vidyalaya movement - will liberate about 80 millions of fellow Indians, living in remote rural and tribal areas, from the darkness of illiteracy." He informed the audience that this movement is growing rapidly. In the four years since its birth in India in 2000, the movement has taken roots in USA in 2002 and UK in 2003, and now we are participating in its birth in Australia in 2004. Dr. Agar quoted 2 lines from the national poet, Sri Methili Sharan Gupta's poem published under the title "Bharat Bharati".
