The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) was established in 2002 to develop a sustainable property industry in Australia and drive the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions.
To drive the transition of the Australian property industry towards:
-Sustainability - by promoting green building programs, technologies, design practices and operations
-Integration - of green building initiatives into mainstream design, construction and operation of buildings.
To achieve these objectives, the GBCA runs the Green Star environmental rating system, education and advocacy efforts in sustainable building practices, and events on the national and international levels.
Sustainability Victoria closed on 30 June 2026 following the Victorian Government's response to the Independent Review of the Victorian Public Service.
For more than 20 years, Sustainability Victoria worked with Victorians to reduce waste, improve recycling and support the transition to a circular, low-emissions economy.
