The Eckstein Cultural Arts Center (ECAC) is located in the former Eckstein School, an important site of African American cultural history. The Eckstein School was the first formal community school facility constructed specifically for black children residing in the National Historic District of Glendale Ohio. Formally opened in 1915, it remained a segregated school until three years after the US Supreme Court's 1954 Brown vs. Board of Education decision which ruled racial segregation in schools to be unconstitutional. The ECAC's program of activities is under development. It is anticipated it will include visual and creative art classes, community meeting space, film showings, and musical performances, as well as a home for multicultural discussion.
